Regardless of how bad or severe a tragedy might be, the sun will always shine and good will come out of it. The earthquake in Haiti of 2010 left the country in devastation along with the people who endured trauma not just emotionally but physically as well. Many people in Haiti lost their limbs but one man turned it around to give those people hope and showed them anything was possible… Cedieu Fortilis formed a “Haitian Soccer Team” consisting of victims from the earthquake who are amputees and turned them into athletic players restoring faith and confidence within them. Many feel what Fortilis has done is an act of miracle due to the fact these players suffered tremendous lost after the destruction in Haiti caused by the earthquake.
Andrew Walther who is the VP Communications for the Knights of Columbus got involved in Cerdieu Fortilis’ movement and sponsored the teams by providing uniforms, financial support and etc. Walther was in Haiti at the time helping out by providing wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs and started a program called “Healing Haiti’s Children.” Originally, Fortilis was suppose to recruit these amputees and provide jobs for them but instead of putting them to work he saw something greater. The fact that they would have difficulties carrying their duties as employees, Fortilis felt it would of been better getting them involve in an activity which is also healing and a form of physical therapy for these amputees.
We salute Cedieu Fortilis and Andrew Walther on this side here who showed us that any movement you start even if its just an idea can come to life.
